Officers will directly contact those who did not return GST

New Delhi. The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has asked the field offices to identify GST returns.

Here the officers will find people who first filled the service tax or VAT return, but are no longer filing returns. They will be attempting to know why they are not returning the returns.

If required, the regional commissioner will help them. About 10 million business people have registered in the GST network portal.

About 72 lakh of these people were registered under the previous excise duty, service tax, and VAT. An official said, "Field officials have this information about which businessmen used to return the tax in the earlier tax system.
